August 31st, 2011

1.  "If I Had A Gun"- Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds:

This song is magnificent. The lyrics are wonderful and Noel's voice is heaven. It sounds a little like the old stuff from Oasis. But it's incredible.

Listen here.

2. "Cycles Of Sine Waves Peaking Through Valleys"- Magicks:

Oh yes another long indie title and a ridiculous one at that but this is that ambient song that you go to when you need to chill out. Barely audible lyrics but it adds to the mystique.

3. "Bottle Of Wine"- Fused:

Fun lyrics and rock indie/ india fused music. I suppose hence the name. It's great. I would love to hear more from these guys.

4. " London"- Reigndeer:

Okay this song (via bandcamp) is from 2008 buuut.. It's really good and I think it deserves to be recognized. It's got great acoustic guitar and a lovely mellow aura.

5." New Wolf Coat" - Wolfette:

Indie pop. A winning combination especially when it involves female powerhouse vocals. Wolfette can sing.

August 30th, 2011

1. "Look Around"- Red Hot Chili Peppers:

I'm With You is out today! Well it has kind of been out and released yesterday but today it is officially out now! This song sounds a bit like it could be on Stadium Arcadium it has that kind of Chili Pepper sound. Anthony brings back his rapping skills on this song. This whole album is great. I'm STILL waiting for my "to your house on the release date" CD. Go figure.

2.  "Coax Me"- Sloan:

Another fantastic pick from NoiseTrade. Alternative rock with pretty guitar and a great drum beat.  The Whole album is great and you can

3. "Send Me Off To Sleep"- The Nite Lights:

Folk rock. It has that rolling folk sound. It's mellow and bluesy in a not so typical bluesy way. It's from the EP Tumbling Hearts.

4.  "The Edge"- CANT:

CANT is the new solo project of Chris Taylor (From Grizzly Bear). This song is kind of groovy with soft mellow lyrics and a slick beat.

Listen here

5.  "Bedroom Eyes"- Dum Dum Girls:

This sounds a little like the 80s. It's got the 80s beat and even the 80s female vocal aspect to it. But if you're like me and you like the 80s than you'll like this song.

1. "Hands In The Sky"- Here We Go Magic:

I was listening to my ipod on shuffle and this song popped up. I didn't realize that I had it but it's fantastic. It sounds almost a little like Paul Simon at points. It's dreamy and soft.

2. "I Wanna Meet Dave Grohl" -Wavves:

Hey, don't we all? This actually is now my favorite song from Wavves.  There's a pretty distinct difference between this song and the other Wavves songs I've heard. I can't put my finger on it exactly but It's definitely a good difference.

3. "The Reds"- The Casual Maniacs:

Punk Indie! Sometimes I just get in a serious punky mood. I guess today might be one of those days. This is good punk indie.

4. "Océan Mer"- Lune Palmer:

Kind of ambient indie. Dreamy vocals and a nice beat. From the EP Light Light.

You can download it here

5. "Miranda"- Surfer Blood:

New Surfer Blood! It's about time they had new material out! They actually are coming out with a new album on October 25th. What a nice birthday present that will be (2 days late) This song is everything you would expect from Surfer Blood. Upbeat and and chill with the Surfer Blood Beat.

Download here. (Right click the orange writing and "save file" make sure it's saved as an mp3)

August 28th, 2011

1. "Hurricane"- Bob Dylan:

Okay this song is by no means a new song but where I am right now we just had a hurricane so it's just a song for the occasion.

2. "Four Days Straight (Album Leaf Remix)- Scattered Trees:

I guess this is also sort of hurricane themed (seeing as there are scattered trees all over my road) but not on purpose. I've heard both the original version of this song and this remix and I love both but this remix has a cool kind of echo sound.

3. "Back To L.A."- The Dead Trees:

Okay we're just going to go with the fact that my brain must be tree/hurricane wired today. Either that or everything is just oddly related right now. This song has an awesome beat tied in with beautiful guitar.

Download here  (Right click the song and save link as an mp3)

4. "Little Things"- If This Is A Man:

A soft lovely voice with alike music to accompany it. This is another song that comes from a whole album of good songs. The Album is called Random Acts Of Kindness Have Saved Lives.

5."Stretched"- Paint:

Funky indie music. Not a common combination but I quite like it. It's like Salt and Caramel. An unusual but fantastic and genius combination that brings out the best of the different flavors. The flavors here being funk and indie.

August 27th, 2011

1. "Belispeak"- Purity Ring:

A new single and one of the few available from Purity Ring.  Electronic and sparkly with unique female vocals.

2. "(A Month) With Not You"- Migratory Animals:

From the album Faux Real (clever title right?) The sound quality is kind of quiet but the song is great. Good lyrics and a nice voice. This is another one from noisetrade and the whole album is good so..

3.  " Say The Code"- NewVillager:

The beginning of this sound sort of sounds like it could start off a yoga session. There's a deep low ohhhmmmm kind of sound but then it goes into more of an upbeat less zen sound. It's an awesome song.

4."*Burned Up Hands"- Treelines:

A little bit of alternative indie rock. This actually is from 2009...... but it's good and maybe just maybe you haven't yet heard it yet and will be happy.

5. "Fall Creek Boys Choir"- James Blake & Bon Iver:

An interesting collaboration from these two artists. Lots of distortion and weird noises.

1. "State of Where I Am"- Safety Orange:

Think Sublime on an island. Relaxed and mellowed out. That's kind of what this is like. Feeling all of the Cali vibes.

Download this song and others  (scroll to the bottom and look under songs)

2. "Underground Love"- And The Giraffe:

The guitar in the beginning of this song is so cool.  If your high school were to play good slow songs at prom and homecoming dances this would be one to play. Too bad for many this isn't the case.

3. "Your Room"- If Madrid:

This song starts off with that bubbly kind of guitar that's impossible not to like paired with that kind of voice that's indie rock trade marked at this point. Don't expect something you've already heard though. This song offers it's own sense of unique-ness.

4. "This Will Not Feel A Thing"- Ghostbike:

Charming acoustic guitar and vocals with a slight sweet Swedish accent. Sweet lyrics too. This song is from the album Innocence and Slumber. All of the songs on it are good.

5.  "Like A Forest"- Crazy Fox:

Now looking up songs for this everyday, I hear a lot of music. Lots of it is really good and lots of it I listen to over and over again but only occasionally do I find a song that shocks me. This song did. It was like hypnosis. I think i played it 5 times straight. There's something about the combination of mellow acoustic guitar and soft friendly voice. This song is truly amazing. Check out the rest of the EP as well. Lots of good material.

1.  "Cruel & Kind"- Gold Leaves:

Melodic with strong vocals. Soft and soothing then it picks up in the middle with an awesome beat.

2.  "Terra Incognita"- Atlas Sound:

A new song from Atlas Sound. I believe they will have a new album out soon. This song could be played in a spa it's so relaxing.

3. "We Were Once An Ocean"- Seafarers Union:

Alternative rock music from a Brooklyn band. Feast your ears.

4.  "L.U.D"- Calicos:
This is from the EP Broken Nerve. Kind of grungy rock sounding indie. good grungy indie rock is hard to find but look no further!

5. "Plume&Orange (Live Demo"- Heyward Howkins:

Pretty acoustic guitar and lyrics with vivid imagery.  Close your eyes and listen try to picture everything.

August 24th, 2011

1. "Lucky Now"- Ryan Adams:

A song that will be on Ryan's new album (out October 11).  This song could easily become a favorite. I've missed new music from Ryan Adams. He used to pop out a new album every few months. Glad he's back.

2.  "The Town Crazies"- Hypocrite In A Hippy Crypt:

A cool acoustic-y song with amusing lyrics "Those voices in your head would rather see you dying".  I can appreciate that.

3.  "The Old House Is Gone"- St. Lucia:

A song meant for playing loud and fun to hear in the car.  If you liked "All Eyes On You" you'll like this too.

4. "Turquoise"- Binary:

Some rock n' roll for those who like it. This is the alternative kind.  Killer drums and super soulful vocals.

5. "Know My Name"- Kandle:

Pretty female vocals and a lovely beat.  It has a ghostly sort of echo that goes with the lyrics and the rest of the song.

August 23rd, 2011

1. "What The Water Gave Me"- Florence + The Machine:

Finally a New Album from Florence + The Machine. It seems like ages since the release of Lungs. This is the first known song from the album (which is not yet named) and will hopefully be out some time in november.

2.  "The Pillow Where You Head Does Lay"- Oh Ruin:

That kind of music where his voice just soothes you. It's poetic. It's the kind of acoustic Jose Gonzalez kind of music. it's lovely.

3. "The Middle Of The Bed"- Lucy Rose:

I always get excited when I see "Lucy" anything especially when it's music related and when it's good and this is all of those things. This Lucy has a quite a voice. It's like Florence Welch but a little softer. it's beautiful.

4.  "By Your Side (Safari Safari Remix)"- The Peach Kings:

Awesome remix of an already awesome song. Another great female vocalist.

5. "Without You"- Junip:

Also out this week a new EP from Junip.  This song has become one of my favorite's next to "Always".

August 22nd, 2011

1.  "Monarchy of Roses"- Red Hot Chili Peppers:

The Peppers are back. This is from the new album I'm With You. Anthony's voice is as lovely as ever and in this song they try a little distortion on it. The album officially comes out on August 30th but you can stream the whole thing on itunes for free now.

2. "In/Out Blues"- Kurt Vile:

As if you couldn't already tell this is a bluesy song but not as much bluesy as it is alternative. For those of you that liked "Baby's Arms" by Kurt Vile you'll definitely like this one.

3.  "Ever" - Dead Boy Robotics:

This song was sent to me by buds of a band who had a song as one of yesterday's 5 songs, The Machine Room. I'm so happy they sent it because it's wonderful. It has a wicked drum beat and cool distortion-y sound to it. Can't wait for more from Dead Boy Robotics!

4. "Your Voice Is An Arrow Through My Heart"- The Marble Tea:

The vocals of this song have a rumbly, Lou Reed-y, Velvet Underground kind of sound.  This is from the EP I'm Batman.

5.  "In The Morning"- Vincent Ezelle:

This song is considered afro indie and it's a interestingly cool blend of music genres. The beat is definitely unique and adds another layer to this song.

1. "Evening, Dreaming of Empire"- Sea Pinks:

I love the beat of this song. And the title. I'm automatically attracted to anything about the sea/ocean. This song is on the EP Peripheral Vision and it's only one of many great songs on this EP.

2.  "Nothing At All"- Rites:

A cool electronic-y kinda song. Also a great beat and cool vocals.

3. "Camino De Soda" - The Machine Room:

You know when you hear a song and it just speaks to you? That's this song. I just fell in love with this song and I like the other stuff from The Machine Room too. Can't wait for more.

4. "Here To Stay"- Milagres:

I got this song from the spin September playlist. It's a cute song. It has a good beat.

5.  "Little Sisters"- Kill The Moonlight:

A kind of eery song but very cool and a very good EP.

August 20th, 2011

1. "Greenleaf"- Generationals:

I know. Summer is almost over, I'm dying too but here's a catchy and cheerful song to lift your spirits. Save the brown, yellow, red and orange leaves for a later date.

2. "Gene Ciampi"- Twin Sister:

Another great song from Twin Sister. This chick has a gorgeous voice and it's another cheery catchy song.

3.  " Generation Handclap"- Library Voices:

Contrary to the bands name they aren't quiet in their music. This song like the other two above is also happy and cheery.

4.  "Say So Long"- Fiction20Down:

Another song from one of our featured bands and a great song for the end of summer.  So yea, maybe we're saying "So Long" to summer but this song is happy too so we can at least be positive about it. Also the music video just came out for this song. The boys worked really hard on it and it turned out great!

5.  "Waiting Lessons"- Air Review:

This song has great ambient sounding voices, a flowy beat and great lyrics.

August 19th, 2011

1."I'm A Goner"- Matt & Kim, Andrew W.K and Soulja boy:

Hmm I know what you could being thinking... "What an odd combination and really? Soulja boy?" That's kind of along the lines of what I was thinking when I first saw this. But hey, It's actually very catchy and I'm a sucker for Matt's sweet melodic voice. It's part of a Converse music project to promote their label, Rubber Tracks.

2.  "Content"- The Features:

Another kind of catchy song. The keyboard is kind of Doors-y which is usually a good thing and in this case it is.

Download here

3.  "Violent Nudity" - Says She's Ms. Blat:

This is a pretty adventurous song for me. It's crazy and if you hear it when you're in a relaxed mood you won't like it. It will probably startle you but when you need to hear some louder musc this is good.

4.  "Sparkling Day"- Elvis Costello:

A new song from an old favorite. This song is for the movie "One Day" with Jim Sturgess and Anne Hathaway. There's something about Elvis Costello.....

5. "Holocene"- Bon Iver:

This song is from Bon Iver's latest album (Out at the beginning of this summer) but the music video for it has only been out a few days. Another soft song but soft songs by Bon Iver are of course masterpeices.

August 18th, 2011

1. "Alive, Warm And Breathing"- Paulie Pesh and The Vitals:

A band that was actually submitted to me yesterday by Cristal Peshkepia, The songstress of Paulie Pesh and The Vitals.  Their music was such a pleasant surprise to hear about last evening. Mellow and soft with gorgeous vocals. An amazing song.

2.  "Time Is Like A Melody"- Pinkunoizu:

The beginning of this song sounds like you should be walking through an aquarium and watching fish swim but then it shifts to a soft and pleasant guitar. This whole song flows perfectly. All the different sounds are introduced at the right time. There's a bit of layering too kind of like a canon.

3. "Your Past Life As A Blast"- Okkervil River:

I love Okkervil River because they're one band but they can sound like multiple bands. This song has a great beat.

4.  "The Death Of You And Me"- Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds:

This is Noel Gallagher's (Of the band Oasis) latest project. No it doesn't really sound like Oasis but it's unique and it's a good song. It was featured in the last issue of Rolling Stone. There was a little blurb on it. If you haven't read it you should. It's really funny.

Listen here

5.  "Amber Hands"- S.C.U.M.:

Another good song from S.C.U.M.. He has a crazy powerful voice. It has such a presence. It's quite present in this song.

August 17th, 2011

1.  "Miss. K"- Deertick:

Deertick is good new older sounding music. They remind me of a Bob Dylan a little bit. But this song is definitely more cheery than some of their old material. It would be like Bob Dylan's "Silvio" vs.  "Under the Red Sky" I love it.

2. "Don't Blame Love"- Trent Dabbs:
Yet another awesome album from noisetrade. It sounds a little Rogue Wave esque. It's upbeat and bouncy.

3.  "A Conversation About Death On New Year's Eve"- Scattered Trees:

Odd title I know but this song is lovely. It's mellow and has quite a bit of charm. Soothing male vocals + gorgeous chorus = recipe for a good song.

4. "Fire"- Yukon Blonde:

A really happy upbeat song from Yukon Blonde. Who I might add were my most exciting find of the day (so far). If you like this song you should definitely look for more by these guys. All of their songs are good!

5.   "Nosferatu"- Wise Blood:

A mellow, ambient song. It's kind of sing, speak vocals but it is pulled of quite nicely.

August 16th, 2011

1. "Soft Light"- Miami horror:

The sound effects in this song add a wicked ambiance to it. I think i here crickets and laser sounds. The vocals are also awesome.

2.  "Settling It Off"- Peter Wolf Crier:

My favorite song from UO's music Monday yesterday. Great beat and sick lyrics.

3. "Ash/Black Veil"- Apparat:

This song is beautiful. I love love love the vocals. I can't describe just...

4.  "In The Coach Station Light"- Fonda:

This song has a sweet melody and cute lyrics.

5. " Viewgirls"- Wolf Ram Heart:

Kind of trancy. Pretty melody and a good beat.

August 15th, 2011

1.  "We Are The Human Race"- The Union Jackals:

Such a clever name for a band. I was incredibly happy to find some more rock and roll for today and I found it in this band. Awesome bassline too.

2.  "Tiger Trees"- Grooms:

Beginning of this song sounds a little like Death Cab's "Meet Me On The Equinox". The vocals are lovely. It's a sort of dreamy song.

3.  "Dog Years" - Luke Rathborne:

This song is so pretty. The lyrics are really cute and I love the guitar in this song. The whole EP "Dog Years" is really good too.

4. "Mirror" -Thom Yorke + Burial+ Four Tet:

Thom Yorke always delivers. This song is kind of eery but the eeriness makes the song.

5. " Are We Lovers Or Friends?"- Acid House Kings:

This song is so upbeat and cheery. It's the same kind of upbeat as Peter Bjorn and John. it's the kind of song you bob your head along to.

Sunday, August 14, 2011

August 14th, 2011

1. "Some Children"- Holy Ghost!:

This is a pretty, funky groovy song. The bassline is raging groovy. It's wonderful.

2. "Ivory Teeth Golden Tusk"- Monogold:

This song is mellow and relaxed. The high, lofty voice and soft piano make this song kind of dreamy but the bass and the drums keep you awake.

3. "How Come"- Little Barrie:

This is the alternative music I've known and loved forever but amped up and fresh.

4. "Don't Gotta Work It Out"- Fitz And The Tantrums:

This is rock and roll-y with a little soul. The vocals are awesome. It's definitely a sing in the shower kind of song.
Download here  (click the file not the green download button)

5. "Take My Hand"- The Nocturnals:
This song is kind of mellow. It's sounds like sleepy Kaiser Chiefs but in a good way.

August 13th, 2011

1. "The World Around You"- Warm Speakers:

I'm getting a little tired of overly electronic music. I miss guitars and actual drums but this song, I like. I think it's possibly the vocals that make up for the fact that it's more electronic and it is good electronic music So it's music like this that can still get my attention.

2. "With You"- Sleepy Eyed Fox:

I get the cutest image in my head when I picture the title of this band. So clever.  This song has sweet acoustic guitar and lyrics to boot. Another song where the whole album (Weary Hearts) is great.

3. "Thankful"- Caveman:

This song has a really nice guitar riff. For some reason it reminds me of The Eels and it also has a really good beat.  But in any case I'm "Thankful" they wrote this song. Bad joke. Sorry. Ignore it.

4. "Hoop Of Love"- Dominant Legs:

This is an incredibly upbeat song it's another good song for the car. I like the guitar in this song too. It's what gives the song its upbeat-ness.

5. "I Walked The Line"- Mujeres:

I found this song by chance on Myspace. But unfortunately that's the only way I can find it is on Myspace or Youtube. Since Mujeres means women or wives in Spanish when you search this band you can imagine lots of feminine things in Spanish come up. I don't find this band feminine though. They play kind of bluesy alternative rock. When they sing there's a slight trace of accent. I love it.

August 12th, 2011

1. "Crystal Ball Broken" - Coma Cinema:

I stumbled upon Coma Cinema the other day in a search for new music.  This is from the album Blue Suicide. I got the whole album and I really love all the songs but This is my favorite song of the moment.

2. "Still Life"- The Horrors:

This is the free indie single on Itunes this week and it's the best free single they've had up for a while. I love the vocals, I love the music, I love the tempo, I love everything.  It's another 80's kind of voice. I'm loving The Horrors. The music video is also mesmerizing. All of the boys have nice hair.

3. "Hands"- Young Man:

Another album that I got from Noisetrade. This song is beautiful. It's quite a relaxing song. It is also from another album where everything on it is good. The album is called Boy,

4. "Rose Mary Stretch"- Pepper Rabbit:

Upbeat and kind of spazzy, this song is just fun. It's a good song to hear in the car while you're driving around. It puts me in a good mood.

5. "Milk & Sticks"- Boy & Bear:

I've heard talk about this band all over the place so I decided to find out about them and listen to them. They're from Australia and they sound a bit like the Fleet Foxes. This is my favorite song.

August 11th, 2011

1."Skylark Interbang!?"- ::MΔDE::IN::HEIGHTS:: :

Don't let the punctuation and funky symbols fool you,  ::MΔDE::IN::HEIGHTS:: doesn't mess around. This song consists of sweet crooning female vocals, soft piano and a cool back beat to tie it together.

2. "White Chapel (Light Asylum Remix)"- S.C.U.M. :

To me this sounds a little like Muse. The vocals anyway. I think the remix gives it a little spice too.

3.  "Romantic Streams"- Sleep Over:

This is kind of a trippy, mellow song but there's something pretty relaxing about it. I think it sticks out from other songs of it's kind.

4.  "Exile Vilify"- The National:

The National. I'm not sure I know anyone who doesn't like them and if you don't know of them this might jumpstart your appetite for them. This song is for the game "Portal 2" and though I have no interest video games or anything of that nature, I do enjoy this song. Matt Berninger's voice is golden.

5. "Swarm" - Bite Marks:

Another some what trippy song for the day and another group from the UK. They are just pumping out awesome tunes lately.

Wednesday, August 10, 2011

August 10th, 2011

1.  "Two Cardinals"- Rewards:

This is off of the UO music Monday of this week. A dreamy song with lovely guitar.

2. "Under The Gun"- Apex Manor:

More rock music! hooray! The up beat drum beat and the wailing guitar make this song.

3. "Carousel"- Ravens and Chimes:

This song has everything that a good indie song should. Insightful and unique lyrics, sweet vocals and a mellow but very lovely instrumental aspect.

4. "Morning Thought"- Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr.:

This song has a great beat and the vocals are really really good. It also has really clever lyrics.

5. "Five Trees"- Chapel Club:

This is from another one of "The British Are Coming" artists. I like this song because the lead singer has that kind of "80's voice". You'll know what I'm talking about if you know music from the 80's.

Anyway.... Listen here

August 9th, 2011

1. "Half Asleep"- School of Seven Bells:

I must confess this is an old song. but it is a really really good song and I don't hear it nearly enough.

2. "To the Alps"- Princeton:

Cool drums, nice vocals and a xylophone or a keyboard that sounds like a xylophone. Either way I'm loving said sound.

3. "Boy From The Sun"- Niva:

This song just makes me happy when I hear it. Something about the beat. It's certainly a happy song.

4. "Bodies Coasting"- Chappo:

I could tell I liked this song within the first few seconds of hearing it. The guitar riff is lovely and the first couple lyrics are about ocean creatures. Then the song continues about the beach and love and other things that paint pretty pictures in your mind.

5. "Come On Over"- Veronica Falls:

I think the drums in this song are what give it so much energy. Another group from "The British Are Coming Page". It's decided. I need to get myself to the UK. There is too much going on over there to miss.

August 8th, 2011

1. "Young Blood"- Artists Only:

The most recent song from Artists Only.  The guitar riff in this song is great. Check Artists Only out on "The British Are Coming" page above.

2. "The Enemy"- Of Verona:

Of Verona is a futuristic rock/ alternative band from LA. This song is from the EP Fall Like Roses and shows off their killer female vocalist.

3. "Leave Without Me" - The Rozzes:

Some good ol' rock n' roll. Slight vocal distortion , good guitar, steady drum beats and of course a nice bassline.

4. "Hideaway" - Dreamtapes:

A dreamy song with lyrics that pay a huge compliment to whoever the song is about. "Evey time I close my eyes I'm in your arms" Wouldn't it be nice to be that person. *gushes* how romantic!

5.  "Two Hearts (with Isaaca Byrd) ((Tallest Trees remix))"- Keegan Dewitt:

Whew. Typing that was rough five sets of double letters. This is another dreamy song but the beat from the remix keeps you quite awake and definitely adds to the song.

1. "Polish Girl" - Neon Indian:

I'm subscribed to the Neon Indian mailing list and I was one happy girl when i got an email on Friday saying "Ya know what? It's friday and we love you so here's a free track." This was the free track. It's from the new album Era Extrana and it's my favorite track yet.

2. "Book of James" - We Are Augustines:

These guys are incredible. Their voices have the same effect as thunder. This song is brilliant.

3. "Benny & The Jetts"- TV Girl:

When I saw the title of this song i was thinking it would be a cover of the Elton John song but i was pleasantly surprised to find that it was not and only mentions the song within the song (song inception?)

4. " Heart of A Girl"- Peter Bradley Adams:
Beautiful vocals and a really cute song.

5. "Sunspray"- Blackbird Blackbird:

A really good song for summer. It was on indierockcafe a few weeks ago for a top ten of july.

This is an incredibly relaxing song with awesome vocals and a great chorus both because of the lyrics and because of the beat.

3.  "Speed"- Lucy Langlas:

Besides having a really great name this Montana girl has a great voice and definitely a great future ahead of her as a musician.

4.  "White Owl"- Josh Garrels:

This song is so pretty. The lyrics, the guitar, the vocals, everything. This is from the album "Love & War & The Sea In Between"

5.  "Some People Change" - The Apache Relay:

From the album "American Nomad" this song is just one of the many great songs on the album. All of the songs are good but this one is my favorite.

This song is almost a year old but It's really good. The lyrics are pretty clever too.

2. "Pot"- The Phoenix Foundation:

This song has also been around for about a year. But it's still considered an upcoming album. Could be about a type of plant but could be about kitchen ware too. It was on and Urban Outfitters music Monday a few mondays back.

3.  "Do Not Feed the Radio"- Fiction20Down:
A song from one of the featured bands of the moment. This song was on the indierockcafe top 10 downloaded songs of  July 11-17.  It's featured on their new EP "Do Not Feed the Radio".

4.  "I Like the Way You Walk"- The Donkeys:

You can't help but smile when you hear this song especially if you pay attention to the lyrics. They're incredibly sweet.

5.  "No Love" - Hooray for Earth:

Sounds a bit like Passion Pit and Yeasayer. Definitely cool with a good chorus. Creepy voice at the end but I think it adds to the song.

1. "2 Hearts" - Digitalism:

This track was featured on the SPIN playlist for august. It was for a reason. It's good.

2.  "Desperate Dan (She Told Me She Was Single) - John Wean:
This song is great not only for the bit of humor in it but also it's high energy beat. These guys are from Glasgow and their accents only make the song more fun to hear.

3. "It's Real"- Real Estate:

This track is upbeat and happy. It's the kind of song you have to either sing along to or bob your head and trust me you will.

4.  "Our Deal"- Best Coast:

Can't say that I'm an incredibly big fan of Best Coast but this song is really good. The music video for this song was directed by Drew Barrymore. It will be on the MTV super video series. It has Miranda Cosgrove and Chloe Mortez (The little Mindy chick from Kick-Ass) in it.

Here's the video

5.  "Midnight City"- M83:

I'm not quite sure how to describe this song. It has some really interesting electronic sounds in it but it doesn't sound like your typical electro-dance song. I'm not even sure you can label it as such

August 3rd, 2011

5 great songs now:

1.  "27"- M.I.A. :
This track was just released a few days after Amy Winehouse's death and is about drug addiction and being 27 (hence the title)

2. "Sleep forever"- Portugal the Man :

from their new album "In The Mountain In the Cloud". It's a dreamy kind of song about something we can all relate to on a weekday morning.

here it is

3.  "Seeds On the Rise"- The Dirty Guv'nahs :

One of the first New rock bands that I've come across in a while. They sound a bit like the Black Crowes. This song has awesome harmonica and great guitar as well.  My favorite song from "Youth is in Our Blood"

Download the EP here

4.  "You Still Love Me" - Cut Off Your Hands :

From the EP "Happy As Can Be". This song is my favorite on it. It's mellow but it certainly won't put you to sleep. If you like this another good track from the EP is the title track "Happy As Can Be" Currently (as I'm typing this) Cut Off Your Hands has 28 followers on Itunes Ping but they are definitely a band to look out for.

5.  "Won't Let You Leave" (Spirit Animal remix)- Jenny O. :
Jenny O has the sweetest kind of voice. The original version of this song is good too but The Spirit Animal mix definitely adds something. Go Jenny
