October 30th, 2011

1." Loud Mouths (Supreme Cuts Mix)"- Wise Blood:

This is a killer killer mix. It sounds incredible with Wise Blood. The song is like a genre all of it's own. Check it out.

2."Everything To Me (Adventure Club Mix)"- LIPS:

Another pretty awesome mix for today. It has a really good beat and pretty vocals which contrast the harshness of the echoes and synth. It's pretty dub too.

3." Doughnut For A Snowman"- Guided By Voices:

This song has strange but interesting lyrics and a really nice sound. I can't explain. It sounds comforting.

4."And What Year Was This"- The Beautiful Few:

From  "October Lovers" I'm so sad October is coming to an end yet again! Here's my sad melody for the end of the month.

5."Like This"- The Night:

I love the vocals in this song. They really express the lyrics and the emotion in the song. The music is also beautiful.

October 29th, 2011

1." The Creature"- Kurt Vile:

Another great song from Kurt. Also an appropriate title seeing as it's so close to Halloween. October has gone by so fast!

Download here via stereogum

2." These Boys"- Orange:

This makes me think of "Some Boys" by Death Cab but it doesn't sound like it at all. It's upbeat alt rock. It has vocals kind of like Weezer.

3."See You Hurry (Twin Shadow Mix)"- WIM:

This is an awesome mix because I love Twin shadow too!

4."Wild Wants"- Estasy:

A kind of creepy song. Perfect for Halloween preparations. It's just as chill as any of Estasy's other releases though. See what you think.

Download here via Stereogum

5." Call It Off"- Washed Out:

Washed Out has probably been one of the most successful bands of 2011 and they've dropped another single that will probably be available on vinyl soon enough. In the mean time download it

October 28th, 2011

1."Shoot Me Down"- Johan Reinhold:

A unique song from a Swedish wonder. The joys of twitter. That's how I found this song.

2."Pinky's Dream (Feat Karen O)"- David Lynch:

This song is the product of a fantastic collaboration. It's kind of eery but in a cool way... I absolutely adore Karen O.

3."Beach Holiday"- Fort Lean:

I would love a beach holiday it's aggressively cold where I am and it's only October. This song is helping me to feel the warmth.

4."New Nephilim"- The Heatheners:

This song has the same dark feel as say The Smiths. They have quirky and bizarre lyrics that I'm sure will make an impression.

5."West Of The World"- Infantree:

Incredibly mellow but very pretty folk kind of music. It also has lovely harmonies.

October 27th, 2011

1."Some Boys (RAC Mix)"- Death Cab For Cutie:

I love the original version of this song but the remix just revs up this song. It's like "Some Boys" drank a double expresso.

2."I'm Alive"- Thick Sound:

This for some reason reminds me a tad of the White Stripes in terms of music but the vocals sound more bluesy.

3."Sigh The Day Away"-Magic Bullets:

This song is actually about a year old but I just discovered it today. I like the idea of sighing the day away... I think I probably do that a lot.  This song is kind of alt rock and Magic Bullets sound a little like the Kaiser Chiefs.

4." Holding Hands"- Red Plum & Snow:

This song sounds like there should be a bunch of children in a field of flowers but lying down because it's so mellow. I was drawn in by the album title, Brightest Beginnings because it just sounds so nice.

5."Shades Of Love"- The Test Dream:

Another pretty title. This band sounds like a more indie version of McFly though they're from New York... Not England. Go Figure.

October 26th, 2011

1."Right Place"- Black Partridge:

What strikes me most about this song is the soul in it. The soul in the vocals ties in so well with the slow steady background music. It's really pretty.

2."Phantoms"- Young Galaxy:

I know this probably would have been a good song to use on Halloween but I just couldn't wait. Such pretty vocals and beat. Also this video is really cool check it out.

3."Main Street"-Deer Tick:

Their album Divine Providence came out on the 24th and I love everything I've heard so far. This song has serious power. I love it. Click here to download this song and the rest of SPIN's November playlist. All of their picks are really good. (November already???)

4." All On Red"- Likes Lions:

This song is so pleasant the music is so pretty and the vocals go with the music goes with the vocals so well. It's like a demi lullaby.

5."Paper Lanterns"- Sunset Hearts:

Some cool electronic indie with a really nice bassline. It also has a really pretty album cover.

October 25th, 2011

1."Lonely Boy"- The Black Keys:

I can only imagine how many people are dying cause of the fact that there's new Black Keys material. I confess I'm one of them. Their new album, El Camino is set to come out on 12/6. This is the first single.

2."That Ain't Right"- PYYRAMIDS:

I really like this beat and I'm also really digging her voice. The beat is also really bouncy which gives the song energy.

3."Twenty Miles To NH Part 2 (The Philistines Jr Cover)"- The National:

Because my mom and I both love The National and because it's her birthday here's a new track by them. Happy Birthday Mom. Matt sings this one for you.

Download here via Stereogum

4."White Night"- The Postelles:

This group reminds me a little of The Kooks. Same kind of vocals and beat. This song has a lot of energy. It's so fun.

5."City Of Angels (Demo)"- Dear Paris:

This song sounds so 80s. It has that kind beat that says "I have 25 scrunchies at home with my leg warmers and triangle bright colored plastic earrings."

October 24th, 2011

1." I'm Not Ready"- Surfer Blood:

Surfer Blood's new album Tarot Classics is out! This is the most popular track of the album so far. I'm excited about this album!

Download here via stereopills (right click and save as mp3)

Yuck. Not looking forward to that but I like this song! It has a kind of rewind sound to it.

Download here plus 4 other good songs!

3." Weekend"- Class Actress:

This song sounds really 80s. Pretty voice and a good party kind of beat.

4." Cleaning My Gun"- Chris Cornell:

Yea It's that guy that does everything. Audio Slave, Soundgarden, James Bond theme songs and solo stuff. This song is one of his newest. The lyrics are sad.

5."Only If For A Night"- Florence + The Machine:

It keeps getting closer to the release of Ceremonials and I can't wait!! Here's another track from the upcoming album. It will be out in November.

Download here

October 23rd, 2011 (Lucy's Birthday)

1."Common Burn"-Mazzy Star:

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <----- That's really as articulate as I can be. New Mazzy Star!!! In my last Throwback I asked where they went and they're back!!! Yay!!

2."Petal In A Rainstorm"- Ryan Adams:

Mandy Moore you are so lucky. Your husband is constantly pumping out works of brilliance like monthly. This song is now my favorite Ryan Adams of the moment. I love the lyrics.

Don't let the picture fool you though. It's sadly not on Ashes and Fire.

3."Dark Eyes"- Crystal Stilts:

The name of this song intrigued me. I know. I'm shallow that way but I like the song. These guys are set to release a new EP on 11/15.

4."When I Was Young"- Nada Surf:

I almost forgot about Nada Surf but they were one of the many bands responsible for my original interest in Indie music. I remember when I first heard "See These Bones". So happy Nada Surf is back with more. This song does not disappoint!.

5." Somebody That I Used To Know"- Gotye:

Some how I would describe this song as whimsical. I love it. The vocals are so so so pretty.

And I just have to be really cheesy and say that finding all of this good music on my birthday counts as one really awesome present.

October 22nd, 2011

1." Don't Move"- Phantogram:

I feel like it's been forever since anything has come out from Phantogram but finally here's another good one.

Download here via Popstache

2."Different People"- Friends Crossing:

Pretty guitar melody and riffs. The vocals have a variety of cool sounds too. Lots of texture.

3."Long Distance Love"- Let It Bleed:

This was actually funny. I clicked this song and then started doing something else and my mind kind of drifted but when it drifted back I realized how much I was liking this song. One thing that irks me is when there are songs that you can "Share" but not buy or download. Sadly this is one of those.

4."Be True (Original Mix)"- Russian Adults:

It's Saturday night and it's a party night and I'm in a party mood so here's some party music. Good beats and a good mixing job.

5." Fall Sky"- Silver Wren:

As you might be able to tell this song is a perfect song for October. It sounds like that perfect October night where it's breezy and the moon is huge.

October 21st, 2011

1."Scottish Winds"- Frightened Rabbit:

Such charming accents in this song. It's certainly not the only good part of this song but it enhances it. If you shut your eyes and listen to this song, then picture everything in the song it's pretty cool. So vivid.

Frightened Rabbit is giving away their EP for free on their website click here to get it.  It's on the side.

2." Spectrum"-Florence+ The Machine:

A new song from her upcoming album Ceremonials (should be out in November). This song is fast paced and really showcases Flo's voice.

3."Nuclear Seasons"- Charli XCX:

This song is kind of pop/indie. It has great vocals and a cool clap beat.

4."Paradise Circus"- Massive Attack x Burial:

This is another track from a special 12" that these two groups did together. It's already sold out. It sold out almost immediately after the announcement. This song (Like "Four Walls") is also 12 minutes long.

5."Don't Be Surprised"- Twerps:

This group is from Australia and they deliver melodic guitar and really good lyrics. The vocals have a famillar sounding voice but I can't really put my finger on who they sound like.

October 20th, 2011

1." Flagstaff"- Atlas Sound:

I feel like I keep posting new Atlas Sound. I think it's because their new album is out soon and they keep slloowwllyyy releasing new singles from it. Here's another good one.

Download here via Stereogum

2." Let The Lord Shine A Light On Me (UNKLE Remix)"- Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds:

Not to double up on the Stereogum highlights here but this song is a mix of two of my favorite musical talents. It's such a cool remix and I have loved everything that I've heard from Noel's new stuff so far.

Listen here via Stereogum

3." Antique Love"- Built Like Alaska:

A really pretty melody and pretty vocals. It reminds me a bit of Death Cab.

Download here (click on link and save as mp3)

4." Pharaoh"- Western Haunts:

Really cool unique sounding electronic indie. This song is really neat. It has a whole new electronic sound and a really pretty album cover to boot.

5."Cat and Mouse"- Sacred Animals vs Owensie:

This song is awesome. It has a Massive Attack kind of sound to it and the vocals and lyrics are great too. This was one of those great music searching surprises.

October 19th, 2011

1."Weight Of The World (Under Construction Mix)"- The Explorers Club:

This song has that 50s harmony sound to it. The remix adds a nice touch.

2."Mexico"- Satellite Stories:

I liked this song with in two seconds of hearing it. It has a jump up and jump beat and amazing vocals too. This song is so much fun.

Download here (right click link and save as mp3)

3."90s Kids"- Oh No! Yoko:

This song is also so fun and it's one I can relate to. The beat is fantastic.

Download here (sorry the share link isn't working)

4." Before I Go Away"- Kites With Lights:

Really cool shoegaze- kind of electronic music. The intro drags on a bit but wait to hear the vocals it's worth it.

5."Adios Noviembre"-Hey Chica!:

Sorry I don't have the accent for Adios but this song is crazy. It starts out sounding like your typical American indie song and then boop it goes into Spanish. (I mean given the title it would have kind have been expected) Hey Chica! is from Guadalajara, check them out!

October 18th, 2011

1."Moon Killer"- Small Black:

This song is so cool. It's dreamy AND high energy and there's something about the vocals that blow me away.

Download here (Via Stereogum)

2." Hurts Like Heaven"- Coldplay:

New off of the album Mylo Xyloto. Coldplay goes a little more electronic than their old stuff. I can't say I like it as much as the old Coldplay but it's still good.

3." A Love That Kills"- Psychic Dancehall:

This song is almost trippy with a deep voice (deep as in the way it sounds but i suppose the lyrics are deep as well)

4."Sunburn"- Jago Thorne:

Here's a voice to shake hearts. It's full of emotion and is pretty darn sexy. This is a group to look out for and look out for a new album from Jago Thorne sometime this month!

5."Black Saturday"- Girls Names:

A new one from Girls Names. It's cheery with a nice progressive guitar riff. The lyrics have the sort of dreamy fading feeling.

Download here (via Stereogum)

October 17th, 2011

1."Oblivion"-Grimes:

This song is quirky. It has high pitched vocals and a funky synth. It's pretty unique as well. It brings something else to the musical table.

Download here via Stereogum

2."Friends of Friends"- The Beets:

Oh what a clever band name. This song packs a wicked indie rock punch. It's bold and strong.

Download here (also via Stereogum)

3." While We're Young"- Inspired And The Sleep:

There are a lot of different sounds going on in this song but my favorite thing in the entire song is the guitar riff. It's subtle but it's there.. for most of the song. Listen closely, you'll hear it.

4."Before The Desert Night Was Cold"- In A Wild Deep:

Soft and folky with lovely lovely lyrics and vocals.

5."Flutterby"- Starlight Girls:

This song is jazzy which is adventurous for me but It's cool. I like the beat and also the vocals. There's soul.

October 16th, 2011

1."Make Your Move"- Florida Room:

Gah. Speechless. This song is fantastic. Indie/ alternative. Mellow and upbeat. It's wonderful. You must listen to it.

2."Newlands"- Justice:

Think back to D.A.N.C.E. if you know the song. You can kind of tell it's the same band but it sounds fresher. I love it.

3."Entrance Song (Rain Dance Version)"-The Black Angels:

So unfortunately I could only find a direct download link to the original version of this song but if you get a moment look at the "Rain Dance Version". The Black Angels have a new EP out and that's on it. The EP is called Phosgene Nightmare.

4." Over-Mind"- Cosmic Sound Child:

Hmm anyone else automatically think 60s after seeing the title? If so you are in quite good company I'm sure. And to add to that thought Cosmic Sound Child is considered "psychedelic rock". See what you think.

5."Bird Song"- Uncle Lady:

Yes the bird song does have the sound of actual birds in it. It's folky and has beautiful vocals. Not to mention it's off of an EP called Pamplemousse which is one of the best french words ever meaning grapefruit.

October 15th, 2011

1." Perhaps Vampires Is A Bit Strong But..."- Arctic Monkeys:

Yes. This is an old song and yes many many people know and love this song but today I'm posting it because I'm missing a chance to go backstage tonight and see the Arctic Monkeys play. I'm quite bummed about it so I'm honoring them by posting this song.

2." I Don't Believe In Love"- We Are Trees:

This song seems to have a little 90s rock left in it. It has that heavy guitar riff that makes up an alternative rock song. It also has great vocals.

3."How It Rains Here"- Three Fields:

This is such a soothing song. It's instrumental (which I don't normally go for) but if I ever go massages this would be something I wouldn't mind hearing in the background.

4." Trouble"- Lotus Feed:

I love pretty much everything about this. The name, the artist name, the vocals and the music. Some of the guitar riffs sound like Nirvana.

5."Passion Seekers"- Little Tybee:

Wanna get away? Listen to this song. It sounds kind of islandy with beautiful melodic vocals. A good remedy for the cool fall weather.

(2 other tracks from Little Tybee as well :))

October 14th, 2011

1."Honeypie"- Peachy Keene:

Okay this was one of those on a whim things and I now really really like this song. Peachy Keene is fantastic. Check out the whole EP.

2."Pisces Lullabye (demo"-Honey White:

I won't always do this, but this song is in honor of my very awesome friend, Kira who in fact is a serious Pisces. (Yeah I'm one of those people. The one that believes in the zodiac thing not to mention the fact that I'm a Scorpio which is fantastic but hey that's a whole 'nother story for a different song ). Kira, you'll like this listen and I'm pretty sure everyone else will too.

3."Little Things"- The Peach Kings:

I've posted The Peach Kings before but I've been way into listening to their EP Trip Wop lately and this is one of my favorite songs from it. It came out in August I believe.

4." Gotten"-LOS GAUCHOS:

Okay now this is cool. Given my fascination with different nationalities this is awesome. It's Argentine indie. It's in English but it's soft, mellow and beautiful. I believe the album cover is an early picture of Slash. I like it.

5."Sweet Lucy"-Harlan Pepper:

Okay how perfect is this? And added bonus it's a good song. It's indie/folk with a wee bit of twang. I love it!

Thursday, October 13, 2011

October 13th,2011

1."Lotus Flower (Jacques Greene Rmx)"- Radiohead:

Something about Thom Yorke's voice. It's like magic and this remix is extremely good. I have the original version but I actually like this version better.

It's the Itunes Indie spotlight this week! download it there

2." Dirty Blood"- Artful Vandelays:

This band is from Toronto and they are a quite a  talented alternative indie band. The guitar riffs are great. They sound like a grungier Weezer and slightly more indie.

3."Love U More (RAC Mix)"- Sunday Girl:

This girl has a lovely voice and in my opinion the remix and the real version don't sound all that different.  This song is the closest it can be to pop without being pop.

4."Stay Gold"- The Big Pink:

Yes! New music from The Big Pink! For those of you that know and like the song by them "Dominos" you will be happy campers. This song is close behind "Dominos" on my list. I don't know if I'm the only one but I start to think about Ponyboy and the Outsiders.

5." Whose Side Are You On Anyway"- Absofacto:

This song has a great chorus and great vocals. I also felt like I'd heard of Absofacto before this point but now I'm glad I've actually heard them! Yay! (and if you have already I'm sorry I'm not providing you with anything new)

Wednesday, October 12, 2011

October 12th, 2011

1."October"- Nomandic Firs:

Oh how perfect. October in October. Doesn't get a whole lot better than that. Oh but wait it does because this is a good song. It's a (sadly) short acoustic little tune.

Download here (right click and save link as mp3)

2."Day and Night"- From The Hollow:

Rock indie with great drums and lyrics. Another cool album cover too! Feast your ears.

3."Gather On The Threshold"- Dead Boy Robotics:

One of my favorite bands from Scotland. They are adding to my awesome new music list of October because they have a single out on Halloween then a new album in November! I can't wait.

4."Eyelids"- Anymen:

A pretty Harmony along with an equally pretty melody and nice guitar.

5."Glass Harmonica"- Arms:

A bouncy and upbeat new track. Sure to keep you in a good mood.

Tuesday, October 11, 2011

October 11th, 2011

1." Whiskey"- The Glass Eye:

This song has classic rock kind of female vocals. It's the first time in a while I've heard new music sound like music of this generation. You'll have to listen to see if you agree.

2."Hello Sadness"-Los Campesinos!:

high energy alternative music. The lyrics in this song are really cool. If you listen to them carefully this song will probably engage your imagination.

3." Broken Dreams"- Glitter Freeze:

I particularly like the name of this group. I'm not sure why it just sounds really cool. I also really like the drums in this song.

Download here (right click and save as mp3)

4." Moon"- We Drew The Map:

The guitar in this song is magical. You might think it's instrumental but be patient there's just a 1:21 min intro.

5."Oh Dear! Oh Dear!"- Dear Darling:

Don't you just love interjections? Here's a high energy song for you with a pretty album cover.

Fall Post

In honor of all the things I love about fall at home ( ex. Pumpkins, big spooky moons, beautiful colored leaves ect) I'm posting 5 songs about all of it. No descriptions just music :)

1."Autumn"- Paolo Nutini: Download here

2."Full Moon"- The Black Ghosts: Download here

3."Unique Tree"- The Narcoleptic Dancers:

4."Pumpkin"-Starlight Mints:

5."Harvest Moon"- Neil Young: Download here

October 10th, 2011

1." Total Decay"- The Soft Moon:

This song has been getting lots of internet hype lately. It's interesting. The wailing background music is cool. It's definitely a mellower song.

2."Wolves Of The East Coast"- PK:

Ahh. Yummy alternative indie rock. It's gorgeous. The music sounds a little like the Boxer Rebellion and the vocals are just delicious. They release their new album Berelain in about 3 days!

3."She's A River"- Firehorse:

Great female vocals and a lovely beat in the background. It's a powerhouse kind of song. It's also unexpected and far less mellow than the other songs I've been hearing tonight.

4."Hard To Breathe"- Tully On Tully:

More pretty female vocals but softer. They're lovely. It's a lovely song. It has a nice beat and pretty lyrics.

5."Carry Me"- Geoff Ereth:

This song is sweet. Soft piano, soft vocals and sweetness all the way through. It has great lyrics too. It's the kind of song that could be in a movie at a part where the protagonist is having the serious breakdown. You know how it goes. It happens in almost every modern day movie.

October 9th, 2011

1.Pericles"- Out Go The Lights:

A lovely little indie melody. I can't think of a band to compare it too. But something about it will probably sound familiar to you when you hear it.

2."Friends"- Camus And The Cat:

There's something adorable about this song. Maybe it's the vocals, maybe it's the lyrics or maybe it's all of it together. The cover art is also pretty great. It made me chuckle.

3."4 Walls"- Massive Attack vs Burial:

This is such an amazing collaboration. This is a 12 minute piece of glory. It has the best from both groups and makes for the most amazing mix.

4." Videotapes"- Blouse:

This song sounds retro. It's like the 80s incapsulated in about 3 minutes. It's gorgeous really. Listen to it.

5."Night In The Ocean"-Young Magic:

Mellow, dreamy music that makes me miss the beach. The music kinda sounds like you're swimming which totally adds to the coolness of the title.
