1."Days"- The Drums:

I actually tried to post this song weeks ago but I couldn't find a download link. I mean come on you try googling "Days" and "The Drums" on google. Pretty broad topics and harder to find than you might think. Anyway I FINALLY found this track on soundowl and can share it! It's a perfect indie song. I mean clearly it was so good I remembered hearing it (which says a lot because I hear LOADS of music daily)

2."Harvest Moon"- Poolside:

This song is perfect for the fall which is getting really close! I don't know where you live but here, It's starting to get brisk for jean weather! Yippi! This song has a nice groovy little beat and it makes me wanna run around a corn field and get pumpkins. A great Neil Young cover. It's an electro twist

3."The Sun"-Patrick & Andrew:

This song has cute lyrics a cute harmony and pretty acoustic guitar. It makes me smile. I can feel the feeling of the song.

4."Winter Never Comes"- Paper Aeroplanes:

This song is mellow and soft but quite pretty. It's kind of lullaby-ish and it's been a rough week so it's making me sleepy!! Good thing I only have to find one more song.

5."Strange Mercy"- St. Vincent:

I have to say the album Strange Mercy was not my favorite with the exception of a few songs but this title track is pretty good. You can actually hear her voice and it sounds quite pretty.

1."Pretend"- Mighty Moon:

A mix up of gorgeous vocals and bells and piano and all sorts of wonderful sounds. Mighty Moon is an  LL featured band of the month and they are trying to win The Deli's NYC artist of the month vote for them here! One more day left so please please vote Mighty Moon!

2."Song Of Los"- Apparat:

Apparat is easily one of my favorite bands of this year. They just came out with a new album this week and this song is free on itunes this week from said album called The Devil's Walk. There is some softness to Apparat that makes me fall in love with them every time I hear a song by them. This song is no Different.

3." Nothing"- Young Man:

I always get so excited when I post an artist who doesn't get a lot of attention and then all the sudden they take off and it's amazing. Young Man posted an album that I got off of noisetrade about a month ago and now he's itunes' indie spotlight of the week! Congrats buddy!

Download here (right click and save as mp3)

4."If You Run (Live In Tennessee)"- The Boxer Rebellion:

This song is a few years old and it was featured in one of my favorite movies of all time, "Going The Distance" BUT they just released a Live In Tennessee album and they're on tour so I wanted to give them a little attention and remind everyone they're still here and to go see them when they play near you. "If You Run" is one of my favorite songs and it's brilliant live as well.

Download here (this is just the regular acoustic version. if you want the live version see itunes or amazon)

5."Pinko Morning"- Nihiti:

A mellow semi acoustic indie master piece. Pretty with soft vocals. It has nice lyrics too.

Download here

1."Kissing Taste"- Lo-Fi-Fnk:

A funky electronic and even somewhat groovy beat. This song also has a bonus of great vocals. Oh and of course Lo-Fi-Fnk is Swedish which explains the apparent ease in which they make these epic electronic sounds.

2." Suggestion Box"- Policy:

An indie rock tune from an Irish band. It's bouncy and upbeat. A good song to make you up in the morning.

3."Undiscovered First"- Feist:

This is from Feist's upcoming album, Metals. (Out 10/3 in the UK and 10/4 in the US). this song is soft and sultry. Less upbeat as her last album but I like this mellower side of Feist. I can't wait for the rest of the album.

And stream Metals here:

4."Shadow"- Ringo Deathstarr:

These guys have a new EP out soon as well and this is my favorite from what I've heard of the EP so far. It's like an electronic anthem if that makes any sense. It has that kind of yell chant rock thing going on. It's cool

5."Next To You"- Christian Bitto:

Soft acoustic indie with a super dreamy voice. I love the chord progression and the pleasant surprise of the day which is this song.

September 27th, 2011 Special Addition Double Post.

So Today I'm doing something kinda cool and different. Yesterday I inquired about Hungarian music and today I got an email from Agi Szabo who was kind enough to send me a list of bands from the Hungarian music scene.

Here are 5 songs from 5 bands from that list.  A very special thank you to Agi Szabo!!

1."Disco In My Head"- Erik Sumo Band:

This song is incredibly catchy song with clever lyrics as well. This song I think would be indie electronic. The music is really cool too.

2."Enter"- Bin-Jip:

This song features the voice of Veronika Harcsa. Agi tells me that Veronika is involved in lots of projects but this band, Bin-Jip, is her main band. Her voice is whispy, floaty and angelic.

Download here (hit the little arrow)

3." Wandering Will"- The Qualitons:

This song has funk. It has that sort of bouncy almost jazzy kind of beat with indie vocal sound. I think it could be one of my favorite songs right now.

4." Hideaway"- The Carbonfools:

A cool fusion of electronica and indie. It samples part of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" and the occasional pauses in the song give it a little bit of drama. I love it not to mention that the music video is awesome.

Download here (right click download link and save link as)

5." Come On Progeny" -Yonderboi:

Despite the holla at you kind of name this song is dreamy electronic. The violins are a nice touch. I love it.

Again Agi, Thank you so much! I'm so happy to have been exposed to music that I probably wouldn't have found on my own. If anyone else from anywhere wants to share music, I'm always so happy to listen.

xoxo

Lucy

September 27th, 2011

1."Champagne Coast"- Blood Orange:

A New Mellower tune from Blood Orange. Slightly different from "Sutphin Blvd" but all the Blood Orange elements are there. It's definitely one of their best.

2."Girls Like Me"- TV Girl:

Prepare to see TV Girl on almost every top indie bands of 2011 list. They have made an incredible break out this year. Their Benny And The Jetts EP has been one of the most downloaded EPs this year. This is the latest from them and It doesn't disappoint.

3."Jennifer"- Marshall Holland:

The joys of twitter. That's how I found Marshall. He has a lovely pop indie sound.

4."Cheat On Each Other"- Whalers:

A song from a Texas band. It has kind of a Black Lips sound where it's that kind of grungy almost surfish music that has vocals with a wicked edge.

5."Wood"-Rotsam:

I love sitar and this song has really good sitar in it. It sounds like a mixture of different cultures and sounds.  The vocals are really pretty and really unique.

September 26th, 2011

1."Wild Window"- Fool's Gold:

Upbeat party/dancing kind of song. Groovy bass and guitar. I've picked the video as the "listen link" today. It's really colorful  with lots of lights and action.

2."I Like You"- THE MOOG:

So from this website I can see which people are seeing my website and recently I've been getting a lot of views from Hungary. I decided to see what was up with the Hungarian music scene because sadly I have never been to Hungary or heard any music from Hungary until now. This band is from Budapest and I have a lil bit of a crush now.... on all of its members and this song.

If any Hungarians who are reading this know of other good Hungarian bands I'm missing out on PLEASE tell me in a comment or something. I would LOVE to hear about them!

3."Love The Way You Walk Away"- Blitzen Trapper:

This is one from American Gold Wing that I got off of the SPIN October playlist which has 12 songs for the October issue some of which have already been on the site so you can get them all at once HERE. This song has a country twang to it which surprisingly has a positive effect on the song. I have issues with too much country twanginess.

Download from the spin mixtape with a bunch of other musical treats.

4."Soothe Me"- Yuck:

A nice ol' mellow song from Yuck. A little bit different from my other favorite track by them, "Milkshake" but then again I'm always good for a mellow song here and there.

5."Fish"- We Used To Exit:

This song starts out soft and gets a little louder. The vocals in it are so pretty and soft but it has an upbeat drumbeat.

September 25th, 2011

1."Bug"- Wavves:

Itunes' "Discovery" download this week from Wavves' EP Life Sux. I don't know how life could possibly suck for them. They've reached a pretty high point of fame already and their music hasn't even made it out as far as it will go.

Get It On Itunes for the rest of this week

2."Here To Stay"- Milagres:

Okay Milagres have had a ton of attention from the media this month. I think they were on the world cafe with David Dye and have been on a number of music websites. Movin' on up!

3." You Still Turn Me On"- Dylan James:

This song is has sweet lyrics and and beautiful acoustic guitar. I hope that this and the other song on there "Summer Dress" are recorded soon with others. There are times that Dylan's voice goes a little flat but personally I think it adds to the effect of the song.

4."Atlas Hands"- Benjamin Francis Leftwich:

This is an acoustic wonder. The vocal + acoustic guitar blend = a freaking beautiful song. This is Itunes' Indie Spotlight song this week and I think it's one of the best songs they've picked since The Horrors.

Get This on itunes this week!

5."I'm Gonna Try"- Shimmering Stars:

Well not only do I love the band name but I also love the ambient but upbeat dreamy but still keeps you awake song. It's a shortie, only 2 minutes but 2 very good minutes.

September 24th, 2011

1." I Might"- Wilco:

A new single from Wilco! I know that they either have a new album out now or it will be out soon but I know you can stream it somewhere too because I believe I've seen it. If someone knows tell me because I want to get this new album!

Download here (right click mp3 and save as mp3)

2."Coming Down"- Dum Dum Girls:

Dum Dum Girls are so awesome. They have so many different sounds. This song is softer with pretty vocals.

3." Cuckoo"- Still Corners:

This is really pretty. It's soft and the vocals are pretty much angelic. It has a sort of dreamy sound to it too.

4."Lazy Bones"- Wooden Shjips:

High Energy indie rock with great lyrics. It's one of those songs where if you hear it loud you can't really help but bob your head a little. Don't be embarrassed we all do it.

5." Some Things"- Crazy Fox:

A song from one of the featured artists this month. My favorite song after "Like A Forest" from The Goodnight EP.

Get This song or the whole EP here

So liked all the song choices today and don't really feel like downloading them individually?

I got ya. Most of the songs today came from the UO LSTN #15 playlist.

September 23rd, 2011

1."Mercy (feat. Mark Kozelek)"- Desertshore:

Pretty acoustic guitar and soft mellow vocals. It's that song that you want to hear early in the day when you don't want to wake up so fast.

2."Empty Love Song"- Zebra & Snake:

Agh. What a sad name. An empty love song? Aww well it's good and it doesn't seem empty to me aside from the lyrics which express the emptiness of the love. It still has a nice beat and cool echo-y kind of lyrics.

3." Dreams"- Pet Cat:

Lo-fi UK indie. What could be better right? Mellow lyrics but relatively up beat music. It has a bit of a surfer sound to it too.

4." 1999"- Jane's Party:

We have Jane's Addiction and now Jane's Party. Jane's gotta be one pretty awesome girl. Bouncy indie rock from Toronto. I think they have a full EP out in October. Again October is going to be a fantastic music month.

Download here

5." Yellow Melons"- McCarthysm:

Super mellow electronic music. I would consider this to be atmosphere/ background music but it's cool. I like anything that's kind of unusual.

September 22nd, 2011

1." Green Aisles"- Real Estate:

Oh yes. They are also coming out with a new album soon. October will be a huge music month and I can't wait! This is a new track from said upcoming album which I believe is called It's Real.

2." On And On"- Fossil Collective:

So harmonious. The middle sounds bubbly with Beck type noises. It's pretty cool.

3." Ain't It So"- PAPA:

Okay to me, this sounds a little Edward Sharpe-y. I like it. It's got a little bluesy sound especially with the piano.

4." Work"- WE//ARE//ANIMAL:

This is so groovy it could be in a commercial. It has those drums and that keyboard that's like "hey I can strut to this music".

5."Raw Umber/Twilight"- Walls:

Not huge on instrumentals but this is really cool. It's kind of mystical.

September 21st, 2011

1." Dreams"- Merry Go Round:

Cool tune from a band from The Netherlands. It's kind of jazzy. It's got a bit of a kickstart kick back guitar riff and the recording quality is interesting. At times the vocals seem to come on stronger than others but it's cool

2." I Can Be One"- Luke Rathborne:

I've put a song up by Luke Rathborne before but this song is so different than "Dog Years" but hey here's the cool thing they both are really really good. In this song you hear the voice of an angel. Soft piano and a soft crooning voice. It's beautiful.

Download here (right click the "I Can Be One" link and save link as mp3)

3." Lavacado" - Foreign Orange:

This is a really cool combination of music genres. It's electronic, beach rock, disco and indie all at once, in one song. Pretty cool huh? Give it a listen. You can also get the whole album free if you want it.

Download album here

4." Wolves"- The Good Natured:

The lead vocalist in this song sounds a little bit like Ellie Goulding. It's full of energy with a seriously upbeat beat. It's perfect party music. I think this group is going to explode onto the big scene soon.

5." Dream Out Loud"- Sea At Last:

This song is classified as gypsy pop which I think is really cool. Now maybe I'm crazy but I think this would be an adorable song to dance to. The lyrics are precious and it has that kind of blues beat in it. It's really a very cute song.

September 20th, 2011

1."Thankless Thing"- Wild Beasts:

This song has an incredible beat and strong vocals to accompany it. The guitar in this song is really really good too.

2." Black Water"- Apparat:

I absolutely love Apparat. I heard "Ash Black Veil" A few months ago and have been on the look out for more Apparat ever since. This song relaxes me. I love it.

3."Get Gone"- White Arrows:

Electronic, danceable but still incredibly indie alternative. It's a combo but blended so it just sounds like one thing. It's complicated to try to explain. Listen.

4." Kill It In The Morning"- The Twilight Sad:

This song is kind of creepy but really cool. It has an off kilter kind of beat and wailing guitar riffs.

5."Butterfly, How Long It Takes To Die"- The Flaming Lips:

New stuff and I'm betting album soon from The Flaming Lips. Their stuff keeps getting weirder and weirder especially if you compare this stuff to say like "Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots" and "She Don't Use Jelly" but I must admit it's one of the things I like about The Flaming Lips. So unique. Oh and hey if you have 6 hours to kill you can listen to their other new song called "I Found This Star On The Ground"

Throwback #1

Alright I'm trying out something a little new. I'm going to ( maybe once a week or once a month we'll see) post 5 songs that are "old" that I still actively listen to or that I've forgotten about. Perhaps you'll know some of these and remember a song you'd forgotten about or hey, these songs could be new to you.

1."The Funeral"- Band Of Horses:

I remember when Everything All The Time first came out. It was when I first started getting into indie music and it was my mother that first played Band Of Horses for me. I find myself listening to this song often. This song along with "Is There A Ghost" and "No One's Gonna Love You".

2."Abel"- The National:
This is my favorite National song at the moment. It changes a lot and I often get in a "National mood". One of the best songs from Alligator. I've listened to this song every day this week.

3." Heavy Metal Drummer"- Wilco:

Okay when I was younger, This was my most favorite song ever. I would sing it all day at school. Not to mention that Wilco was one of the first really successful bands in the indie movement along with like The Shins and a few others. Wilco absolutely rocked NPR and the indie radio station in my home town used to play Wilco all the time.

4." Icky Thump" - The White Stripes:

I remember when Icky Thump came out too. I fell in love with this song. It was dangerous and bad ass and well I wasn't really so I lived vicariously through music like "Icky Thump".

5." Ain't No Reason"- Brett Dennen:

Brett Dennen's music started my thirst for folk music. His music also had something that I wasn't as used to hearing, purpose. The lyrics in this song speak to something and are twisted with wisdom and observation. He has an absolutely brilliant soul.

September 19th, 2011

1." Doubt"- Amanda Mair:

Ahh such a lovely female voice and also a lovely contribution to indie pop.

2." Loveless, Come Lately"- The Dead Ships:

And the shallow person in me was yet again attracted to the album cover of this song. Thankfully it was one of those situations where the song was also good. That really sucks when you find a great album cover and the song is bad.

3." Mellow Mood"- Slightly Stoopid:

Okay guess what kind of song this is, I doubt you'll be able to get it. This is from Their "Seedless Summer" tour and hey, you can get this whole album free and I say do it. It's good. I swear in this song the vocalist sounds like G-Love.

4." Empire Waist"- Halloween, Alaska:

This song has a pleasant familiarity to it. I'm not sure why it sounds so familiar but I like it.

Download here  (right click the link and save as mp3. If you read this often you know the drill)

5."Egyptian Peaches"- Co La:

This song is really weird but because of that, I like it. It's like a sound orgy and all the sounds were invited.

September 18th, 2011

1. "Jacket Print Face"-Wilder Than We:

Nothing like a little electronic indie on a Sunday... well any day really. Some of the sounds in this song sound like they could be in a video game. It's kinda cool.

2."Load Your Eyes (Star Slinger Remix)"- I Break Horses:

This song is mind blowing and the remix adds something pretty freaking awesome to it too. Good remixes just absolutely rock.

3." Burning Eyes"-Mountebank:

Music from a band that I believe is French. This music also apparently goes under the category of "shoegaze" music. I'll be totally honest; I have no idea what that is but I like this song.

4." Friends"- Tiger Waves:

A feel a slight pang when I hear this song. It sounds like summer and I miss it already but on the bright side when you hear it maybe you'll be transported back to summer when you hear the lyrics "It's summer and I love you".

5." Colour"- Keegan Dewitt:

Colour really should always be spelled with a "u". I don't care what country you live in. It looks way better that way. This song is super pretty. Mellow and also kinda summery.

September 17th, 2011

1."Era Extrana"-Neon Indian:

This song is obviously supposed to be pronounced ay-rah-ex-tray-nia but i have no accents on my computer so forgive me. The album by this title is out now!

2."Out Like A Lamb"- Doleful Lions:

Okay this song has a long intro but it's 5 minutes long so it can have a long intro and it's a good song so stick with it!Also don't listen to it when you're sleepy. It's very mellow.

3."This Place Gets Old"- Self Help:

The caption at the top of the page? "This song is about the city I live in". Dude, I can totally relate. I like this song. Sort of ambient garage indie.

4."Blood Meridian"- Mujeres:

I put a song by Mujeres on here in august maybe and I liked it a lot and went searching for more today. I like this song too now I can't really tell you how it's different from any other head smashing spanish bluesy rock but hey it's an uncommon enough genre as it is and this is good.

5."Ghost"- INLITE:

Brit pop esque indie with a lovely bassline. Sounds futuristic too. Very cool.

September 16th, 2011

1."Te Amo"-Atlas Sound:

Atlas Sound always has such original stuff and when I say original i also mean original from their other songs. Atlas Sound doesn't have just one sound, it has many.

2." Attic"-Leaves of Green:

The guitar + the vocals in this song is an awesome combo. It's mellow and upbeat at the same time.

3." Gotta Go"-Oberhofer:

Sounds like British pop rock. With good lyrics too. It's bouncy. It's got the winning guitar riff and strong vocals.

Download here (right click download the single)

4."Echoes"-Glyphs:

Electronic folk. It's an interesting mix but I like it. You gotta see what you think. You can get the whole album free.

5."Doc Martens (Demo)"- Glowing Cat Eyes:

I will admit my initial appeal to this song was both the title of the song and the title of the band. The song title because i love my doc martens and am thankful that they now have a theme song and the band title because I think cat eyes are cool especially ones that glow... i like glowing things. This sounds like a song you would hear in a movie with Ellen Page in it.

September 15th, 2011

1." Murderous Joy"- Carter Tanton:

Aside from our obvious love of music, Carter and I both have something else in common; We're both from that little state near DC that's Maryland. Music from MD isn't rare. There are lots of good musicians there but This guy is truly amazing.

2."Lily"- Hush War Cry:

This song is really pretty. All the different vocals and the melody. I also picked out this song because of my sister because her name is Lily. She's also quite pretty.

3."Sunbeam Blood Shine"- Sex Dream:

Well there's a band name for you. Electronic indie but more on the alternative indie side. I like all of this band's titles. They crack me up.

4."The Myth"- Soul Circus:

I love the drums in this song. They compliment the voice so well. I feel like I'm always saying "I love this, I love that" and I'm sorry but i love music so there is my lack of ability to express it.

5."Lovelorn"- Little Creatures:

Canadian music hooray! Little creatures is from Toronto. The lyrics are very easy to relate to and so eloquently expressed as well.

September 14th, 2011

1." Shake It Out"- Florence + The Machine:

Another new track from their upcoming album. Yet another album to add to the list of new releases that I can't wait for. Everything Florence + The Machine has come out with so far is amazing. This song is no different.

Download here

2. "Resolution Of One"-Guards:

I love the vocals  in this song. It also has great lyrics. It kind of reminds me of like a dude version of a Best Coast sound.

Download here (right click song and save as mp3)

3."Painted Hands"- The White Butterfly

This song is beautiful. I think it's the ukulele that makes it sound so pretty. It's like floating.

4."Coldest Closest"- Whisper Wolf:

Another beautifully mellow song. I sometimes wonder if my songs would be different at different points of the day. I definitely get in moods and I'm mellow now so maybe my moods affect the songs I pick.

5."Say You Will"-Telepathic Teddy Bear:

Okay so this is a little less mellow and a little more electro but I like it even in my mellow mood. It has that charming electro beat.

September 13th, 2011

1." The Body (Violens Remix)"- The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart:

I love The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart and this song (especially the remix) is like a party song! It's great.

2. "Siren Song"- Freakish Atlantic:
I love the beat in this song. And the guitar. The lyrics are actually really cool too and you can read them on the link you're about to click on.

3."Invisible Riverside"- Ryan Adams:

I am officially incredibly excited for the release of Lucky Now from this man. Another fantastic song from the soon to be released album. Ryan Adams is a musical Picasso. He just keeps pumping out good material.

4. "Beat and The Pulse"- Austra:

Another good party song. I guess I'm in a party mood today. A good ripply sounding beat with crooning female vocals.

5."Ocean"-Seaside Postcards:

This song is strange but I like it. The vocals sound like those of "Heathrow Thru Flow" but the bass and guitar are amazing.

September 12th, 2011

1."Facing The Sun"- Treefight for Sunlight:

If you don't instantly get happy when you hear this song you must be in a really bad mood are something. It's so upbeat and cheery. It's like instant sunshine.

2." Pace Maker"- Breton:

This song is unreal. The violins make it crazy cool and the distorted buzzy kind of vocals are a winning touch.  This would be a fantastic club song. I think someone should make anonymous mixtapes and leave them on Dj's door mats. That person might have to be me.

3." Behold The Hurricane"- The Horrible Crowes:

So from music 1 of 3 things usually happen;  1. A band breaks up they  just break up and that's it. 2. A band breaks up some of the members go solo and stink or some of the other members try to keep the band alive by bringing in new people and that's good or bad or there's 3. a band breaks up or goes on hiatus and they work on side projects or new projects if they break up and alas another musical gift is born. This song is number 3. The guy from The Gaslight Anthem. Brian Fallon is part of The Horrible Crowes and here is a musical gift. They have an album called Elsie coming out soon.

4. "After The Flood"- Small Countries:

I like this. i like the lyrics they're kind of gravelly and i like the instruments in the background. This sounds like a cross between John Mayer and Dave Matthews.

5."Mad"- Close Up:

Ah yes. Wonderful echo-y British indie rock. It's wonderful. This would be a fun concert to go to.

September 11th, 2011

1."Halfway"- Milagres:

Electronic indie. Steady beat and awesome vocals. It's almost like they have texture. I guess that's why the band name means miracles. Optimistic but valid.

2."Steeple"- Black Bear Woods:

Wow. So many acts from Australia making a smash this year. Angus & Julia, Boy & Bear and now Black Bear Woods too. All good indie bands that are taking off. Woohoo.

3."Sophie, I Love So"- The Story of The Sun:

Who ever would have thought that a song that samples (well not really samples but has lyrics from) the hey mickey song would be good? Did I lose you? Well what I mean is this song has lyrics from hey mickey in it and it's good.

4."It Was Yellow"- Bearhead

Mellow psychedelic indie rock. It's instrumental and I don't normally dig instrumentals but this is so calming. I love it.

5."Rising Moon"- A Minor Bird:

Such pretty vocals. Reminds me a little of Paul Simon at first and then bleeds into a more bouncy upbeat kind of indie that I can't really compare to anyone else. Cute lyrics too.

September 10th, 2011

1."Capsize"- Big Black Delta:

This song has an explosive rhythm and a really unique beat. This song is also awesome because lately the vocals in more electronic songs have been recorded more quietly than the music and it sounds washed out but in this song the vocals are strong.

2."Rosie"- The Kooks:

A Song from The Kook's new album, Junk of The Heart. It should be out on Tuesday, like most new album releases. I've heard 3 songs from it so far. "Taking Pictures of You", "Junk of The Heart (Happy)" and of course "Rosie". I love all of these songs so I'm sure this album is going to be fantastic.

3. "Mtns Are Mtns"- Forest Fire:

Stereogum wrote a review of this song recently saying that it wasn't really getting the attention it deserves and I agree. It's a really good song. It's a chill indie song with almost a little bit of twang in it.

4."A Walk Home"- The Morning Clouds:

Such a cute name for a band I think. This song is really pretty. It's soft but it still has a good beat.

Download here (right click the song and save as mp3)

5. "Shovel"- Nicholas Gunty:

Pretty acoustic guitar with vocals and lyrics to match. For some reason this song reminds me of a poem that I read by Seamus Heaney freshman year called "Digging". It brings about the same imagery. If you like this song take the time to listen to the other songs on the album too.

Friday, September 9, 2011

September 9th, 2011

1.  "Don't Stop (Color On The Walls)"- Foster The People:

Yeah it's that band that sings the pumped up kicks song! But hey! Guess what! They have other songs too and this is one of them and hey! It's Good! It's uber catchy and it's in the Nissan commercial that's airing right now. It's from Torches. Other good tracks (besides the infamous pumped up kicks song which is also on Torches) are Helena Beat, Houdini and Broken Jaw.

Download here (right click the download and save link as mp3 file)

2."Champagne & Peaches"- Nerves Junior:

Another one of my favorite songs from Nerves Junior. this album is already one of my favorite albums of fall. I actually bought it and within seconds of hearing it. Sooo amazing. Also check out "Kale".

Listen here:

3. "I Only Know"- Warm Weather:

An awesome mellow tune. I like the bell sort of sound in the background and they have lovely voices. Check out their other stuff on soundcloud as well. It's all good.

4. "Ole"- Pearl Jam:

A new track from Pearl Jam. Awesome rock beat. All the traditional Pearl Jam rock sounds are ever present in this song the only thing that I think is missing is more of Eddie Vedder's Voice. But otherwise, awesome song.

5. "Indian Summer (Des Moines)"- Canon Blue:

Such a pretty song. All the violin and drumming and vocals. Yum. It's so awesome and so gorgeous.

1. "By Your Hand"- Los Campesinos:

Another good one from Los Campesinos. It's catchy and happy. I love the lyrics.

2."Nightcrawler"- NOSAJ THING:

I'm not one for instrumentals but this song is cool. It's super dimensional. I can see this being remixed at some point for some big artist project.

3. "Nodding Off (feat Best Coast)- Wavves:

This song has a good beat but it's the kind of beat you have to be in the mood for it's kind of like a surf beat.

4. "Always A Good Night"- APRIL:

Catchy melody and cute lyrics. I also really like the vocals in it. The boy girl combo is good. It goes with the catchiness.

5. "Cool Vapors"- Jacuzzi Boys:

That kind of head banging beat with fun lyrics. The dream beat is basically the heartbeat of this song.

1."Wapusk (feat Bon Iver)- Kathleen Edwards:

Kathleen reminds me a little bit of Mazzy Star. It's that soft mellow peaceful kind of sound. the collaboration with Bon Iver is so good too. It's such a beautiful blend of their already amazing on their own voices.

2. "Landfill"- Daughter:

Well today must be a female vocal kind of day. Daughter's voice is amazing. It's so beautiful. It's the kind of voice where you will feel what she's singing about even if you've never even experienced what she's singing about.

3. " Fox Hunt"- Carondelet:

I love ukulele. Especially soft ukulele like this. The recording is interesting. It's kind of buzzy almost but I think it adds to the song.

4."I Saw You Walking"- Lomelda:

This song is cute. I can't explain why but it is. There's something really cute about it. I love the cadence too.

5. "Tigerpaw"- PALOMA:

I love the melody of this song. It flows and the guitar riffs are really nice. It's just in general a really good song. When I heard it, it made me happy.

1."Right Away"- Peter Wolf Crier:

The  flow of this song is fantastic. I'm at a loss of description for this song. Any form of intellectual observation has escaped me but it's a great song.. Maybe you should just listen to it and you'll know what I mean.

2."Some Love"- A Lull"

The vocals in this song are magic. It's like the male version of pixies singing. It's not girly in any way shape or form but it has a fantasy like sound.

3."As Bright As Your Nightlight"- Nerves Junior:

Okay this song is absolutely wicked. In fact it was so wicked that I started looking for more Nerves Junior. The whole Album, As Bright As Your Nightlight, Is amazing. Nerve Junior's sound is amazing. Finally another great new band on the music scene.

Listen to the rest of the album here

4."Song For The Sad"-Garden Pictures:

This song is pretty darn cool. The beginning of the song has this kind of trance like sound. It is a sad song. The lyrics are really sad but it's a cool song.

The rest of the album is free too and you can Download it here

5."Knives"- Dirty Circles:

Soft, mellow acoustic for you from the EP, Jesus Juice. I love the guitar in this song. It's just really beautiful. The way the song is recorded too it sounds like there are waves in the background.

1."Medicine"- We Were Promised Jetpacks:

I love this song from We Were Promised Jetpacks. Such an awesome rock song. i love the beat of this too. I think this song will be on repeat for a while.....

2."Beast In Air, Beast In Water"- SNOWMINE:

It was the album cover of this song that got my attention. I know it's shallow but occasionally presentation does nab my attention. It's even more attention grabbing though when the song is as good or better than the cover and in this case the whole album.

3."Teflon Heart"- Caged Animals:

The lyrics in this song are great. I love lyrics that are a jumble of fun things mixed together. And that is what this is. "Bought me a tarantula put them in my camera and shot my heart". I love it.

4."You're So Cool"- The History of Apple Pie:

This song is adorable. I don't mean that in a demeaning way at all in fact the cuteness is what makes the song. That blended with the most perfect female vocals is a very nice blend.

5." I Could Die"- Girls Names:

Ah yes! Such a good music day! I love it when I find really good music. I'm such a nerd but it makes me die of excitement. This song has a Wavves kind of beat. It has that guitar progression that makes you want to bob your head from side to side.

1. " HeadSpace"- We Barbarians:

YES! Rock indie. Not Indie Rock. The difference being it's more about rock. This song does in fact rock.

2. "Sutphin Boulevard"- Blood Orange:

Have you ever had a blood orange? Well if not it's like a regular orange but sweeter and more red in color on the inside like the juice kinda looks like blood. It's unexpected really. My point in saying that is that this song is unexpected. Unexpectedly good.

3. "Tame The Sun"- Male Bonding:

Awesome beat in this song. Another good end of summer song.  I love the lyrics too and the title. It would be awesome to be able to tame the sun.

4. "Clamoring For Your Heart"- Princeton:

Another good song from Princeton. It's so 80s. It just has that all around 80s sound and as I'm sure I've previously mentioned, I love the 80s and a great deal of the music from the 80s so this song is right up my alley.

5. "The Great Unseen"- Kate & Max:

I love singer song writers. There's something so sweet and personal about there music. It's like them alone presenting their music. It's just complete natural beauty. Here is a perfect example.
