1." Life's A Beach"- Kurt Vile:

Yes! Kurt Vile is back with new music! Kurt has one of those voices... It's like honey.

2."Golden Cage (Fred Falke Remix)"- Whitest Boy Alive:

A spin on the usually mellow Whitest Boy Alive. Occasionally the remix of a song is a good way to spice it up. Here's a good example.

3."On My Mind"- Silent Seas:

For some reason this band reminds me a little of  Hootie & The Blowfish and Counting Crows combined. Not sure exactly why. It's like alternative rock indie. The album cover is striking.

4."Video Games (Jamie Woon Mix)"- Lana Del Rey:

Yeah, This is that song I said I wasn't digging so much the other day. This remix however  has the whole internet buzzing at the moment and it really showcases Lana's voice which is incredible.

5." Beach"- Peter Wolf Crier:

I guess this week I have been revisiting bands I like to find more music by them and PWC is one of them. Yeah and no beach is not a theme on purpose today it just happened sorry. This is an awesome song from PWC.

October 5th, 2011; 5 Great Cover songs:

Here's My Reasoning for this post; I really don't like covers. For the most part, I like original work but here are some covers that have changed my mind.

1. "Last Kiss"- Pearl Jam:

This song on a good day, can make me cry. Eddie Vedder is definitely up there as one of my top male voices ever. In this song his voice is what makes you feel the emotion in the song.

2."Ridin' In My Car"- She & Him:

This is one of the greatest covers I know. I love Zooey's voice and everyone knows M. Ward is a musical genius.

3."Wonderwall"- Ryan Adams:

This has got to be one of the most covered songs in the universe but this version sticks out to me the most. Ryan Adams does this song so well. He makes the guitar riff pierce into you.

4." Everyday"- Rogue Wave:

Okay if you really love the Buddy Holly version then you probably will be kind of opposed to this version but I ADORE this version. It sounds like an entirely different song.

5." Summer Breeze"- Peter, Bjorn & John:

PB&J are fantastic as it is but their version of this song is so amazing. This song makes you feel like you're floating.

Throwback #2

1."Rhymes Of An Hour"- Mazzy Star:

What ever happened to Mazzy Star? I haven't heard anyone talk about them in a while. Hope's voice is so pretty. I listen to MS almost every night. This song is also in one of my favorite movies, Stealing Beauty.

Listen here  (This song was literally impossible to find as a download)

2."In One Ear"- Cage The Elephant:
Cage The Elephant is the original badass indie group. They are one of the few indie groups that really has a bit of venom in their music. I get in moods periodically where I need to blast them to feel the sting that they deliver.

3."Victor Jara's Hands"- Calexico:
I really truly love Calexico. They are one of the first alternative/indie bands I ever heard. They produce the most beautiful music. They fuse their Spanish roots into their songs which make it even more beautiful. This song in particular. The Spanish in it is so pretty.

4."Comin' Back"- Citizen Cope:

I love Citizen Cope. The Clarence Greenwood  Recordings is one those albums where I know all the songs in order and the lyrics to all of the songs on it. This song was a later discovery for me but It's quickly become one of my favorite songs by him.

5."O Valencia!"- The Decemberists:

This is definitely my favorite Decemberists song. The lyrics are fantastic and the title makes me think of orange juice. Everything about this song is great. I just love it.

1." Pretty Things"- Future Fields:

This electronic sounding song blends into a more guitar oriented song. It falls into a state of disorder that makes it so impressive. I love the guitar in this song and the vocals add a sort of bouncy hyperness.

2." Too Young"- The Doorbells:

Ahh yes. The upbeat indie my life's been missing. I like the lyrics too. They're funny.

3."Ghost Towns"- Radical Face:

This is Itunes "indie spotlight" of the week. Lately Itunes has been having good indie spotlights. Many of which are older groups with new material. It's always good to hear more of what you love.

Go get it! Hurry! this week only!

4."My Heart"- Loney Dear:

A band capable of many different sounds. They released a new album today and this song is on it. Good lyrics and a lovely melody.

5."Recalling"- The Proper Ornaments:

Incredibly mellow indie music. Toned down vocals and music but it suits the song. It has a very relaxed feel. It's not so in your face.

October 3rd, 2011

1."More Of You"- Keegan DeWitt:

I believe I've posted Keegan Dewitt before. He's awesome. He has a really distinct voice and he's also quite dynamic.

2."Save Me A Place"- White Arrows:

I love love love White Arrows' beats. They add so much to the song. The other thing that makes their music so good are the vocals. There's an element I can't really describe but it's a key White Arrows sound.

3."Tent"- Selfish Elephants:

I love the title of this group but also the song. The melody is so pretty and the lyrics are equally beautiful. I love the line "I’d look her in the eyes if I could look"

4." Mourning Song"- We Are The City:

This song is pretty. The vocals and music go together so well. Also this EP is clever. The songs on it are "Mourning Song" and "Morning Song". So clever.

5."That's Not Cool"- Wilde Child:

Yes I know the title sounds like a phrase you'd hear a middle schooler say. I know I know. This song is quite "cool" actually. It has laid back surfer vibes with a little punk.

1." I'd Pick You Every Time"- Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds:

No offense to Liam or anything but I am really loving Noel's new project... a tad better than The Beady Eye. Every track I've heard from NGHFB is amazing. It has a little Oasis sound remaining but it sounds fresh. I love this track. It sounds like it's been injected with a little folk.

2." Spirit of Memory"- The Soil & The Sun:

I often find that if you describe a song the way you would describe a person that you're attracted to then it's a perfect song. Now I can safely describe this song as dreamy, unique and it's gorgeous. That sounds like an attractive person. Well it's an attractive song.

3." Blue Jeans"- Lana Del Rey:

Honestly, the first time I heard Lana I wasn't quite blown away. I still don't really love "Video Games" but her voice is unbelievable and I definitely like the lyrics of this song better than "Video Games" the chorus is fantastic. Lana's been getting a ton of internet attention and she's going on tour now. See what you think.

4."All The Beautiful Things In The World"- Caged Animals:

After hearing "Teflon Heart" I've been looking for more Caged Animals. They have really original lyrics and a really cool sound. This song is a softer side of Caged Animals and I love it.

5." Black"- Sister Gracie:

I love the vocals in this song. They're deep but smooth and the bassline is pretty awesome too.

1." Play That Same Song"- Littlefoot:

This song has a cute sound. It's the kind of jump start/stop acoustic guitar and that same riff is really cool.

2."Treasure"- Blitzen Trapper:

This song is on here more for kicks than anything else. I babysit for twins and they adore Yo Gabba Gabba so I have seen more Yo Gabba Gabba than most people my age should. We were watching the "Treasure" episode last night and the Blitzen Trapper were on it. I practically died but I'm glad that they're exposing kids to good music early on.

3."Mother"- The Golden Filter:

Electronic indie with killer female vocals. It's kind of trancey with a good back beat.

4."The Color Of Industry"- Radiation City:

This song has a killer bassline and feist-esque vocals. It's your ultimate upbeat indie song.

5."Permanent"- The Milk Carton Kids:

This song I believe would fall into the category of "singer/songwriter" although it's kind of folk sounding as well. The vocals in this song are pretty. They're comforting in a way.
